The style of Metallica has never changed, contrary to the beliefs of the so-called "hardcore" Metallica fans. The amazing guitar playing ability of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett, the guitar-like style of bass player Jason Newsted, as well as the inhumanly fast chops of drummer Lars Ulrich combine to create a band that will always please the fans that stick with them. Metallica never had an easy road to stardom, though. There have been several occasions where a possible breakup seemed imminent. In 1992, during a concert in Montreal, James was standing directly over a magnesium pyrotechnic when it went off. He was rushed to the hospital, and the band asked their follow up, Guns n' Roses, to proceed with the show. They refused, however, and the fans were so angry that riots occured in the streets of Montreal that night. The band never split, though, and once James was feeling better they began touring again. James sang vocals while one of the rodies played Hetfield's guitar parts. It is very surprising that the band made it through all their troubles. Of course, credit can't be given to the band without mentioning the deceased original bass player Cliff Burton, who died in a bus crash while touring Europe in 1986. Of all the concerts I've seen, I know Metallica will always put on the best show in the business, no matter how long their hair is.
